Summary of Changes
This is the first major revision of the Club’s Constitution since our inception over 20 years ago, and we wish to highlight the major changes.
We first of all follow the general guidelines for a constitution as provided by the Registry of Societies. Important changes in the content of the Constitution are the following:
1. Membership :
The Constitution creates two categories of voting members – regular (graduates of any Stanford degree program) and associate (others who have attended Stanford-related programs, taught at Stanford, are parents of Stanford students, other otherwise have an affiliation with Stanford).
2. Entrance Fees, Subscriptions, and other Dues:
The Constitution no longer specifies these amounts. Rather, it defines categories of charges and authorizes the Executive Council to set fees and collect fees as it deems appropriate.
We also now define delinquency (3 months in arrears) as a cause for loss of membership.
3. Executive Council:
The term of the Council is now set at 2 years. Members may serve for a maximum of 3 consecutive terms, after which they must step down for at least one term before being eligible again to serve.
The four office-bearers – President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer – must be regular members. Others serving on they Council may be either regular or associate members.
The limit on spending authorization has been increased to $5,000. Single payments in excess of this amount shall be reported at the following AGM.
4. Audit: The term for the Honorary Auditors is now set at 2 years.
These are the major changes in the new Constitution. Other changes are smaller and are designed to facilitate the running of the Stanford Club of Singapore.
Please contact Richard Hartung or Eric Hsu for more details.
