We are delighted to invite Stanford alumni to a small and informal reception with the Dean of the Stanford Engineering School on Friday, 6 February 2009.

Dean Plummer will discuss engineering’s role in energy and environmental efforts, a particularly timely topic given both the focus on energy in the new US administration and Stanford’s announcement of the establishment of its new Energy Institute in January. He will also discuss how quantitative information from biology is allowing engineers to rapidly develop bioengineering. Dean Plummer will also update participants on the new Engineering Quad that is under construction.

Tiger Brewery Tour and Tasting

Dear Members,

Start off the New Year right by getting together with your fellow Stanford alumni and DUAL members at a unique event!

Join us for a short bus ride to the Tiger Beer Brewery at Asia Pacific Breweries and uncover the secret recipes to making that thirst-quenching beer. You will learn what ingredients are used in brewing the beer and the process of canning and bottling. The tour will end with a free pouring at Tiger’s Tavern, accompanied by light finger food.

APBS will provide a free flow of Tiger and Heineken the entire evening. Anchor, Baron’s, ABC Stout, Guinness Stout and imported beers, Kilkenny and Erdinger will be available from 8:30 to 9. This is a great event to start off the New Year, and we look forward to seeing you there.

Professor Ilian Mihov, Princeton ‘96, will be giving a talk at INSEAD regarding his view of the current financial crisis. Among his many credentials and accomplishments, Professor Mihov is a professor of macroeconomics and econometrics at INSEAD as well as a research fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research (London, UK) and a visiting research consultant at the Monetary Authority of Singapore. His research is primarily in the fields of monetary and fiscal policies, economic growth and political economy.
