As businesses become more global and traditional authority more diffused, organizations are paying more attention to how executives can develop and nurture their social networks. Research has shown that the composition and structure of a person’s social networks affect a number of important outcomes such as individual performance, career progression and the ability to achieve organizational goals. Professor Martin Gargiulo will highlight how your social capital – the resources and support that you gain through your network of relationships – can be an asset or liability to your professional advancement. He will also stress the importance of actively managing your social networks, as this is one of the foundations of successful leadership.
Professor Martin Gargiulo is the Associate Dean of Executive Education, Asia, and an Associate Professor of Organizational Behaviour at INSEAD. He is also the Programme Director of one of INSEAD’s General Management Programmes, the Management Acceleration Programme . His teaching at INSEAD focuses on teams and leadership, influence without authority, networks and social capital.
