We are delighted to invite you to our 25th Annual Dinner and 14th Annual Book Prize Awards Ceremony at 7:00 p.m. on the evening of Wednesday, 7 April 2010. A quarter century is a tremendous milestone, and we hope you will join us for this special occasion.

We are pleased that Dr. Su Guaning, President of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and a Stanford alum, will be our Guest of Honor. Dr. Su will reflect on the early days of the Club, when he was a founding member, and on key trends that he sees in education over the next quarter century.

Dr. Su Guaning is the President of Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore’s science and technology university. Prior to taking office as NTU President in 2003, Dr. Su spent three decades in defense research, heading Singapore’s defense science laboratory for 11 years & later the defense science and technology agency. In 2009, Dr. Su was elected founding chairman of the Global Alliance of Technological Universities, comprising 7 top technological universities addressing global societal issues through science & technology. Dr. Su obtained his PhD in electrical engineering and MS in statistics from Stanford University. His MS and BSc in electrical engineering were from the California Institute of Technology and University of Alberta, respectively. He serves on boards including the Board of Trustees of Institute Para Limes in the Netherlands, and the Singapore National Research Foundation.

At the end of the evening Dr. Su will present book prizes to the very talented winners of the Stanford Club Book Prize.

The annual dinner will be held in the Padang Restaurant at the Singapore Cricket Club at Connaught Drive. Please join us for an enjoyable dinner, great networking and a fascinating discussion. Seats are limited and will be available on a first-come first-served basis.

The Stanford Club Book Prize competition is well underway. Chair Don Huse reports that this year 154 applications have been received from Singapore’s pre-university students. Over the past two weeks a panel of judges has pored over all of these applications and now selected eight individual finalists. The finalists have been invited for interviews with the panel. Following the interviews, three Book Prize winners will be chosen.
